Big week

It has been a pretty big week at our house. Bode has been wearing underwear, even during his naps and hasn’t had an accident yet. He also hasn’t pooped yet either, not sure what to do about that. We keep telling him if he has to go and doesn’t want to go on the toilet, he can wear a diaper to poop. Something will have to come sooner or later!

Also, yesterday after watching Stew go to the bathroom several times he said “I want to go potty standing up like you daddy.” He did and hasn’t sat downe since! Also last night he had been in bed for about 2 hours and woke up to go pee again. I’m sure we have a ways to go, but this is awesome, and I will not miss diapers!

Orange Julius

I woke up yesterday with a craving for an Orange Julius. I have had about 5 in my life, but it is my favorite drink ever. I found a recipe on-line and made them a couple months ago, we had to find it again. It made a pitcher full and we managed to drink the entire think it before the ice could melt!

6 oz orange juice concentrate

1C water

1C milk

1/2 C sugar

1t vanilla

mix till blended, add ice (I put in 2 huge cups of ice because I like them really slushy) I also had a thought that if you use powdered sugar instead it may get frothier?

Delicious!

The weekend

We had a nice long weekend. Bode and I went to Spencer on Friday and Josie and Becky rode with us. Al had to work and Stew was on call, so it was just us. We hung out at mom and Larry’s and played and had a really nice time, I even got a nap on Saturday! Al came up Sunday and Bode and I headed home after a graduation party. Monday started off pretty rainy and cool, but it warmed up and we cleaned up the patio furniture and the Poley’s came over. We grilled and the boys had a great time playing together. Watched a movie after Bode went to bed and the weekend is over already.

I feel like Memorial Day is kind of the unofficial start to summer, so waking up to 59 degrees was a little shocking after a couple of warm days. I am so ready for the sun and hot temps for more than a couple days.

I was sick Tuesday night, nothing major. I picked Bode up from daycare and asked him if we could just watch a movie because I didn’t feel good. I swear that kid just knows! He was an angel. I got him supper and that was about the only time I got off the couch. He keep coming over to cuddle and give me a hug and a kiss because that is what I do to make him feel better. I stayed home from work yesterday and in the morning he tried as hard as he could to be quiet, for those of you that know him, know how hard that is for him and then Stew took him out for the other part of the morning to let me rest some more. Great guys! I am feeling much better today and ready for a long weekend.

Another first

We were at the park tonight and Bode had to go potty. He has not had an accident in a few days so we did not want to encourage him to “just go” in his pull-up. We were too far away from home for him to hold it. So we did like any good parents would and took him behind a tree. He has never went standing up before, but like all men it is the most natural thing in the world. He watched himself go, because that is what he does, and looked up at me and said “I go potty on the big boy tree!”

Productive weekend

I had a pretty productive weekend. I got some landscaping done in the front of the house. Next to the lilac bushes by the driveway I planted 3 tomato plants, 2 day lillies and a hibiscus (my Florida fix for now!). Stew’s band reunited and played a show Friday night, we had a graduation party on Saturday night and then Sunday afternoon we did one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life…Bode and I went to Sesame Street Live. It was awesome! I have never seen anything like it, even when I was a kid, we never went to Disney on Ice or anything. It was cool to see, but the best part was watching Bode see all of his favorite characters in “real life”. He was in awe and could hardly stay in his chair, he’d be up dancing and pointing at everyone and telling me who he saw, it was so neat!

We have all had some issues readjusting from vacation, and Bode is having just as hard a time as we are. He can be so sweet and good one minute and just the opposite then next. Terrible 2′s are almost over and then he will be perfect again, right moms?!

He is doing a great job potty training. He has only been wet after his naps the last few days and tells us when he has to go. We are having some issues with pooping though. He knows when he has to go, asks for a diaper, goes in it, and then wants it off immediately. It’s good that he has control, just scared to go on the toilet I guess. I don’t want to push it this early, because he really loves going potty on the “big boy potty”.

Plan A again

I start student teaching on August 21st, I am so excited! I meet with my cooperating teacher for my first placement next Wednesday. I will have 2/ 7 week placements and a 2 week reading field experience to do, that is a total of 16 weeks with no pay. Plan A was to quit, spend the time I needed and pray for a teaching job at semester or substitute. Then we started talking about my benefits and the possible option of going back to the call center, where I worked before my current position, part time. I can work 20 hours at Allied and keep full benefits, Plan B. Well, then I had the idea that maybe I could work my current job from home, and submitted a proposal, Plan C. However, after return from vacation I have found that B and C are not options, so back to plan A. I am upset for financial reasons, but we have savings and Stew can always pick up some overnight shifts at a hospital if need be. He was really great and made me feel a lot better about the situation. It will be nice to fully concentrate on student teaching and get the most of out of it. Everything happens for a reason and maybe a clean break is the best thing.

Seriously

This trip was extra hard to return from. On our last day I grabbed a real estate booklet and we’ve been flipping through. We have been seriously talking about whether or not we could move to Sarasota. On the upside, you have beautiful weather, laid back atmosphere, swimming, beaches, year round schools (which I like the thought of), no shoveling and no raking (which Stew likes the idea of). We don’t have a lot of ties to Des Moines right now except for Al and Jennie and their families and a few close friends. Bode would not have to be changing schools at this age. The downside is being so far from family and loosing a great daycare provider. Really, if you take the 1 weekend a month we see our family and change it into 4 weeks a year (them visiting twice for a week and us visiting twice for a week, remember year-round school) it’s really the same thing!

No “for sale” sign in the yard yet, but we may revisit the topic in more detial when I get closer to done with student teaching.
